Restaurant review: Two Friends Cafe & Market

Posted on

Tucked away in an unassuming business and retail park, Two Friends Cafe & Market is a restaurant located in Valdosta, Georgia. I’ve been here only a handful of times, always for dinner, yet each time I go, I am impressed with everything that arrives at my table.

Getting to the restaurant can be kind of difficult if you don’t know where it is, as it’s off a main road and nestled well within other business with no real clear signage from the road and only lettering on the front of the building boasting its name. Once you find it, you’ll be glad you did.

I first went to this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend, as she’s a fellow vegetarian and can appreciate good food. If you don’t know much about restaurants in southern Georgia, suffice to say the selection is limited, especially to those of us with limited dietary choices (whether it be by our own volition, or something like gluten free). Most of the dining establishments here are your typical mediocre chain restaurants and fast food. That’s why it’s so refreshing to find something different that provides fresh, delicious options that are locally sourced when available.

Pre-dinner bread is available upon request and is always fresh and wonderful. Every dish I’ve tasted or had for myself, including the house salad, tomato, mozzerella, and basil flatbread, cheese tortellini (sans duck) and any of the desserts is always exceptional.

The featured cocktails on the menu are also stellar, as is the beer and wine selection. On my last visit, I had “A Cocktail Orange”, which includes orange-infused vodka, orange simple syrup and fresh basil.  It was sweet without being too sweet and superbly refreshing, especially with the fresh basil lending itself to a clean taste.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy with outdoor and large party seating available, good for any date night or special occasions, but suits casual dinners well and the service is always excellent. Average breakfast, lunch and dessert prices are about $6 and average dinner prices are $8 – $10, slightly more for protein-based dishes. Signature cocktails are about $7, and everything on the menu is worth every penny you’ll spend. The Market offers takeaway items of some popular menu items for a cozy no-cook meal at home. If you’re in Valdosta and just visiting or you live here, Two Friends is worth the trip.
